What is it like to work in Sales?

Posted on 01 October 2021

So you’re a new, ambitious graduate about to enter the working world? Well here at Albany, we can help! We’re currently looking for graduates to undertake a range of sales roles within the conferences and events industry. We recruit for many high profile companies including Informa, Reuters Events and Euromoney to name a few.

The conferences and events industry is a fantastic sector to work in. You’ll have a range of different tasks to focus on and you may get to travel to some fantastic locations. The sales division is a major part of the events industry. We currently focus on two main branches:

As a member of the delegate sales department, your main task will be inviting clients to attend your company’s conferences and events. Effective communication skills are a must for any potential candidate.

Sponsorship sales roles involve encouraging clients in the industry to sponsor your event by selling sponsorship packages. Again, there is an emphasis on cold calling and building relationships with clients.

Your manager will set you targets which you will then work towards achieving. All roles have sales commission in addition to your basic salary, so you’ll have the opportunity to earn a significant amount throughout the year. The more of your target you achieve, the more you’ll earn. In addition to this, you’ll be able to progress effectively and grow into an astute professional.

As a sales executive, you will need to be confident, a great communicator and be driven, in order to achieve sales targets. Commercial awareness is also highly important. You will also need to be able to work both autonomously and as part of a team. Many of the roles we have are entry level so don’t worry if you haven’t got tonnes of experience under your belt – if you’re a committed individual and keen to work hard and learn, then we’d love to hear from you. From now up until the end of the year, we’ll be recruiting for graduate sales roles, so if you’re interested then please get in touch with us. Also, you can keep checking our website and social media pages for vacancies.
