5 minutes with a...Conference Producer

Posted on 01 July 2022

Job descriptions don’t always paint the complete picture of a role. Often, we try to piece together the tasks and responsibilities to imagine how we would find the job on a day-to-day basis. At Albany, we want to give graduates a real insight into the Conferences and Events industry. Our ‘Five minutes with…’ series gives our placed Conference Producers, Event Executives, Sales Executives, and Event Marketers just 5 minutes to share a sneak peek into their current roles. Here is the first in our series.

Five minutes with a Conference Producer

This week, we caught up with a Conference Producer that we placed in Informa a year ago, to find out what it’s like to be a conference producer and what she most enjoys about the role.

What is a typical day in the life of a Conference Producer like?

Depending on what stage you are at in organizing your conference, you could be planning the conference agenda, researching with industry members or networking at different events. You start your day by making a to do list and ticking through as you go, you have to keep a very tight hold of your daily planner because it always ends up filling up quickly.

What is the best thing about being a Conference Producer?

I enjoy travelling and networking with people from different kinds of backgrounds, and conference production offers you the chance to travel across the world and meet very interesting people.

What has been the most exciting project that you’ve worked on?

One of our larger scale conferences that is an annual event where we invite speakers from the likes of Prime Ministers and former Heads of Hostage Negotiations. It was a unique experience having the chance to meet these very prominent people and work with them.

What is the best advice you’d give to graduates seeking a job in the Conferences and Events industry?

You have to be really confident, even when you’re not sure of something. The most important thing for a Conference Producer is to always appear professional and confident no matter how hard things may be to manage behind the scenes.
