  3. Match your experience with the competencies of the role, which can often be found in the job description

  4. Be honest, and make sure your CV and cover letter add up in terms of information

  5. Let your personality shine through as much as you can whilst remaining formal and relevant to the role you are applying for

  6. Think about your USPs as a candidate

  7. Make your letter interesting to read. Sounds obvious, but your letter could be one of hundreds read, and it needs to stand out!

  8. Ensure your letter doesn’t stand out for the wrong reasons. Remember, you’re not auditioning for The Apprentice!

Dear Hiring Manager,

I would like to express my strong interest in the Graduate Conference Producer job opportunity at FCBI. Having recently graduated from a MSc course in Managing Projects and Innovation, I am a firm believer in driving business growth through innovative business initiatives and networking opportunities.

My experience of events management ranges from running a busy logistics office at a 15,000 capacity event, to organising charity events with Cancer Research UK, participating in the international Frankfurt Book Fair, and running workshops across a range of schools in the UK.

The Logistics Deputy Manager role at Outlook and Dimensions festivals allowed me to test the organisation and time management skills I have developed in a pressurised environment. By effectively managing a small team and communicating across a range of departments, my team demonstrated great level of organisation and a strong ability to stay ahead. As a strong believer in pursuing quality and investing in client satisfaction, I developed and maintained successful relationships with more than 250 staff and suppliers.

Each of my past roles required managing and delivering live events and meetings, representing the company to clients and identifying potential business opportunities.  As a Foreign Rights Assistant Manager of a publishing company I was in charge of arranging the company’s participation in the international Frankfurt Book Fair. Whereas, working in a fast-paced editorial office of an Open-Access Academic Journal I was responsible of acquiring new customers and prioritising multiple tasks in order to meet specific journal sales targets, which I consistently achieved. While liaising with high-profile scientists and editors all around the globe has strengthened my ability to build relationships across a broad network of stakeholders.

I possess strong analytical and research skills and I am able to effectively analyse large amounts of information, producing concise reports and presentations. As a Project Analyst, I designed and created an innovative marketing initiative and conducted detailed market research, successfully identifying current business trends.

Being a member of a professional ballet studio for more than 10 years has taught me that success comes from persistence, hard work and self-discipline. My eagerness to explore new opportunities and develop new skills allowed me to become a candidate master of sports in ji-jitsu. With skiing experience of more than 15 years, I decided to push my boundaries and explore yet another exciting hobby of kite boarding, which has forever changed my perception of summer holidays.

I find the prospect of joining Reuters Events particularly stimulating, as it provides a unique opportunity for me to further develop my skills and business knowledge, and work on exciting range of projects in a dynamic and challenging environment. I believe that my strong passion for events, combined with my relevant academic and professional background would allow me fulfill all job responsibilities of a Conference Producer in a competent and proficient manner, adding value to the Reuters team from day one.

Thank you for taking the time to consider my application, I look forward to hearing from you.

With kind regards,
